Images of a spring afternoon, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, April 04, 2001.

An occasional stone hitting the steel of the harrow, breaks the silence as
eight mules
solemnly perform their duty.

No shouting, but rather as if giving instructions to good children, the farmer talks his commands.

Harnessed with chain, the mussel of the mules is directed to the the draw bar on which the farmer stands holding the leather reins.

Knowing that the ground that they work will produce their winter feed, the eight mules take very serious their job.

Amongst themselves, the mules speak only praise for the farmer for which they pull.
