Whether by fire, neglect, or development, the stone barns of Chester County
are vanishing.  Following the stone barns into oblivion, are the meadows, fields, trails, and wooded glens.

Vanishing stone barns, Wallace Township, Chester County.

Each stone was gathered from the fields by the muscle of man and beast.  Hauled up the scaffold one at a time by hard working boys.  Hammered into shape by mason's who then place them into the wall, stone upon stone until the structure rose high into the sky.  And now the stones fall to the ground, one at a time and scatter themselves back into the fields.  But too the fields disappear one at a time, changing forever the landscapes of Chester County.
